While memorizing your speech isn't required, here's an example of how comfortable and professional you can look when you do memorize the speech. Of course, his easy demeanor and level of comfort could only come from someone who not only memorized the speech, but practiced it (out loud) many times.
He talked about the Bride and all her wonderful qualities (he even poked fun at some not-so-wonderful qualities)… he talked about the Groom and the Groom's best qualities (and a funny story or two about his not-so-wonderful qualities)… he welcomed the guests…. and he proposed a toast.
It's beautiful when it all comes together, isn't it?!
