Loading... Please wait...This speech has been cut short because…well, frankly it's painful and you get the picture right away.
This is what NOT to say.
Even if he had an incredibly wonderful speech (which he most certainly did NOT), reading right from the printout is a no-no. Know your speech. Practice saying it -OUT LOUD- as many times as you need to be comfortable. It's also a good idea to practice enough times that it's memorized.
If you're like me, you get nervous in front of a crowd - no matter how many times you've done it before.
With this said, you DO want to bring a copy of the speech, since nerves can oftentimes make you forget even the best memorized speech. But once you read the first line or two, your memory will come back to you (even if it's only until the next paragraph.) At least you'll be able to look up and make eye contact before looking back down at your paper again.
It's hard to say if he mumbled because he was nervous, or because he had too much to drink and was slurring his words. Don't leave the guests saying the same thing about you!
Surely he thought they were funny when writing the speech, but obviously no one else did. This will always be avoided with a pre-wedding audience. Say your speech to someone else, and find out what they think (it doesn't have to be the Groom, either.) Your friends and family will stop you from making that kind of mistake. You can always send your speech to our speechwriters as well, they will make sure your jokes are in good taste, and warn you when they are not.
